The Love of God by Frederick M. Lehman ( 1868--1953)
| |
Words and Music by Keith Getty, Kristyn Getty, Fionan de Barra, and Stuart Townend
Good Shepherd of my soul Come dwell within me. Take all I am and mould Your likeness in me. Before the cross of Christ This is my sacrifice: A life laid down And ready to follow. The troubled find their peace In true surrender. The prisoners their release From chains of anger. In springs of living grace I find a resting place To rise refreshed, Determined to follow. | I'll walk this narrow road With Christ before me Where thorns and thistles grow And cords ensnare me. Though doubted and denied He never leaves my side But lifts my head And calls me to follow. And when my days are gone My strength is failing He'll carry me along Through death's unveiling Earth's struggles overcome Heav'n's journey just begun To search Christ's depths And ever to follow. |
- This week I came across an interesting article on study about the benefits of cursive writing but I cannot find it now, so here are two that I came across while searching for the article I wanted to share:
- Why Cursive Mattered at The Atlantic
- Karen Robinet column: In defense of cursive handwriting
- Tisha - reviewed at Country Girls Read ~ I loved this book when I read it in college years ago. The blogger even found more information about Anne Hobbs (Tisha) & a link to Chicken, Alaska that shows the school where she taught. Kind of makes me wish I could take a trip to Alaska. :-)
- Sweet & Sour Chicken Kabobs ~ yummy, but next time I'm doubling the dipping sauce because my family wanted more of it
- What to do if you encounter a coyote while walking your dog ~ good tips here, especially keep your dog on a 6 foot leash, stand tall & keep eye contact with the coyote(s) & haze them. When we lived in the mountains we couldn't avoid walking on their trails, since they cruised through our yard and down the streets as they pleased so I always hazed them. If they didn't leave quick enough when I yelled & tossed rocks or pine cones at them, I would charge at them and then they'd run, even though I'm sure they knew I'd never be able to catch them. ;-)
- We also tried this white BBQ sauce on the chicken my husband barbequed this week - pretty good, but next time I'm going to try substituting Tony Chacere's creole seasoning for the salt & hot sauce since we added Tony's to it at the table.
- Saying of the Amen, Clapping, and Hand-raising in Worship 4 ~ I'm not big on clapping after choral or "special" singing in church so I found this interesting. To me, clapping usually seems to take the focus off worshipping the Lord and makes it about the person or people who are singing. (You can find parts 1 - 3 here, but at the time I'm writing this, I've not yet had time to read them.)
- The One Simple Reason The Village Church Is Wrong, Some Thoughts on What Is Happening at The Village Church, and The Red Pill and The Village Church at Matt Redmond's blog, Echoes & Stars ~ this is a sad situation but from what I've read, I agree with Redmond (& others) that Matt Chandler/The Village Church are in the wrong. They should have supported and come alongside the wife & any victims while disciplining the perpetrator. Hoping (& praying) that Chandler/Village doesn't go the way of Driscoll since so many Christians like him.
- ^^ News update: This came out after I had typed up most of this post but apparently Chandler & The Village church took the criticism of how they handled the whole situation to heart and have apologized. This sounds like very good news. Articles HERE and HERE. (Disclaimer: I don't know anything about the blog at the 2nd link so can't vouch for anything else there but so far they were the only two I saw.)

- The Sins of Our Celebrities ~ in general (since no names are named in this post)
- We are All the Duggars at Liberate (we never watched the show so I haven't been following this story)
- Imagine . . . if TGC didn't exist ~ funny but I sometimes agree
- TGC… Just Social, Or Social Justice? at Alta Forma (goes well with "Imagine" post above & makes valid points)
- The Shattering of Every Calvinist’s Dream at the Founders' blog
- current (April 2015) issue of Credo Magazine
- The Pastor’s Dilemma: How Pastoral Debt is Destroying Churches (And What You Can Do to Help) at ScribblePreach ~ interesting article but the college debt problem isn't confined to just Pastors, it's a problem for all college graduates. Seems to me that unless you get a job as an attorney, politician, univiersity professor or brain surgeon, paying off college debt will be hard for everyone since most jobs, even for college graduates, don't pay all that much in this economy. For more info, see "He Turned Down All 8 Ivy League Schools for Good Reason" and "New Ways to Pay Down Your Student Loan Debt" on Clark Howard's website.
- Being a Childless Wife
- The Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals are giving away several copies of Going Beyond the Five Points (see last weeks links) ~ don't know when they'll draw the winners names so hurry over if you want to try to win a copy
More links re Chandler/Village church (since they've made a public apology I wasn't sure if I still wanted to include them or not so have decided to put them at the very end of todays post:

- Making And Using Rabbit Manure Compost ~ we've had pet rabbits for years & were always told that their droppings made great manure that could be added directly in our garden which was okay, but now we're adding their manure to the compost first to see if it makes better fertilizer

- Staples has a fun, interactive timed test to check your reading speed & comprehension that's sort of fun.
- How I Find Time to Read at Modern Mrs. Darcy - This is an older blog post on the topic of making time to read more books. I meant to include it with the other "reading" links yesterday but got in a hurry to leave and forgot. (Updated 2/21/15)
- Month of Letters - Except for missing a few days when I was sick last week with a nasty cold or flu, I've managed to get one item mailed almost every day, although most of them have just been short notes or post cards. And since one of the dogs chewed up a lot of my washi tape, my mail art is really pathetic (or more pathetic than usual since I'm no artist). I've been addressing envelopes &/or labels on Sundays so that I simply have to grab one of them every day, write a note and viola! I'm done. I was in a rut for so long that it's been hard to get back on track and for me, having the addresses ready has made getting back on track easier. I'll take the last two envelopes with me to the doctor's office today so I can work on them while waiting to see the doctor (I always go in with him since two heads are better at remembering any changes that she might make, so letter writing & reading are both out once the doctor comes in).

Christian:
- Walter Martin (the original Bible Answer Man): Hermeneutics YouTube video that someone shared in a FB group that I follow.
This video of Mark Dever talking about "creating a reading culture in your church" is one that I posted a couple years ago on our church's Facebook page. When I was listening to it again I thought it might be good to share here as well (I don't think I've ever posted it here but I'm not 100% certain).

And Just For Fun After several months of mild weather, it turns out winter isn't quite over yet and the other day we got a couple inches of snow. My daughter and the dog had a great time playing in the it. And I couldn't resist including this view that I snapped while we were out walking in the snow. Sadly, it no longer looks like this but it was fun while it lasted. ☺ | Letters & MailOther than the fact that April is National Letter Writing Month (here & here), I haven't really seen much about letters until I found this article today about a retired high school teacher who is mailing letters to his former students - and the letters were written decades ago by the students to their future selves. Getting one of those in your mailbox must be quite a surprise! Miscellaneous

********* Well, apparently KTVU didn't like the joke that was played on them and took that video down. It did make them look pretty inept, but then I already have a low opinion of "media" and how often they get things wrong. But the way they rushed to report those ridiculous names of the pilot's and no one realized they'd been had until after it went out on live news was hilarious.
