More of my 2015 list . . . Happy National Handwriting Day! (AKA John Hancock Day)

Snail Mail links: Here's a clever idea to help connect kids and books - a laundromat library. The Laundromat Library League is busy putting "libraries" in the laundromats in their corner of the world but it sounds like an idea that will hopefully catch on in many other communities. (I found more information here as well.)
Okay, so yesterday I was trying to tidy up my sidebar blogroll and somehow I managed to delete a whole bunch of my links. Sooo...it looks like I have to redo it from scratch. This may take awhile. :-(
Miscellaneous:
Books & Reading: Last year I utterly failed to meet my GoodReads Reading Challenge, partly because of our move and my husband's illness, but also I think because I didn't have a plan for meeting that challenge. So for 2015 I'm trying to set montly goals and plan out which books from my TBR list I really want to read this year. With that in mind, I've decided to participate in Carrie's Reading to Know Book Club/challenge two or three times (L.M. Montgomery in January and Narnia/C.S. Lewis in July). But I'm still working on the rest of my plan and have been looking at different options available on the internet. Here are a few of the ones I'm looking at as well as more TBR book lists:
Did you know that Saturday, January 24, 2015 is National Readathon Day? Neither did I until I saw it posted on Facebook. It sounds like a fun event to participate in - you just commit to reading from noon to 4 pm. Four hours of uninterrupted reading sounds great. But I know that in order to participate without any distractions I'll need to put dinner in the crockpot and then go to the library to do my reading (& turn my cell phone OFF once I get there). You can learn more here and watch videos about it here.
There's a nice little article at the Huffington post on 9 Reasons Not to Abandon the Art of Letter Writing y'all might enjoy. They have a list of good reasons to write letters but I especially liked this one: Studies have revealed an association between writing by hand and brain development and cognition, increasing neural activity more than typing can. Just as learning by handwriting notecards and study guides proves more effective for students, the moments you commit to paper for others are more likely to stay stored in your own memory as well, allowing you both to reflect back and appreciate them again in the future. Just for Fun:
L. M. Montgomery Reading Challenge at Reading to Know Reading to Know is hosting (again) the L.M. Montgomery Reading Challenge this month and since I enjoy (re)reading several of her books every few years anyway, I've decided to participate. Last year I re-read the first two books in the Emily series so will read thethird one (Emily's Quest) for the challenge first and if there's still time, I may read her Across the Miles, because I picked up a used copy not long ago. But Jane of Lantern Hill looks good and I have yet to read it so perhaps....
Wishing everyone all the best in the coming new year. Bible Reading Plans
If you're looking for a new Bible reading plan to use in 2015, there are many to choose from and I thought I'd share a few. Grant Horner's plan is great but it is a lot of daily reading so that you read through the entire Bible in less than a year. Since I'm not a speedy reader and am also involved in BSF (where I get a fair amount of Bible reading doing my homework) and will have more reading to do in the Christian non-fiction book club I'm joining on top of the pleasure reading I want to do, I'll probably stick with the ESV Daily Reading Bible on my Kindle. I bought it last year when it was on sale for $3.99 and having my Kindle keep track of where I am in my reading is very handy. If I'm not able to finish my morning reading before the dogs want out and then their breakfast (they can be pretty insistent), it's easy to stop and then pick right up reading later in the day. That said, all of these plans look like good options.
Happy reading! |

I'm not sure where to put this blog or how to classify it. This blogger is a daughter of a friend and while I'm pretty sure she's a Christian, it isn't a Christian blog, or books & reading or letter writing & mail art. It's basically about their travels so I'm putting it here for now:
